There will be differing views. You can fill each carb bowl with gasoline to avoid grinding the starter pumping fuel. This is the best way to start a car that has not run in a while. Bob has a recent video reviving a sleepy engine, which shows you just how easy it is. But most of us don't bother. We're married to our regimen and only too happy to tell others. For most of my cars I do this: Without touching the pedal I crank to the count of 8. Then I set the chokes and hit the pedal for 9 pump shots. Then I wait till the count of 9. This lets the fuel vapors coalesce in the intake and get happy. Then I throw the lightening and they start every time. I am seeking advice on the best procedure in starting to speed up the process. I pump the gas pedal three or four times before I start cranking the starter… is it better to pump while cranking or before. Any advice would be appreciated. Yes once it has run for a while it starts right up easily. Thanks Rob Lutts from Salem Massachusetts
