Re: {Chrysler 300} B cam

Johnnie,

Another possible approach is to use a proven cam, like the Clay Smith cam that many use, but perhaps use something like  Waldron's Impostor or Mild Impostor mufflers to make the car sound healthier.

Hi All,

I have no experience with these cams but https://hothemiheads.com/ does list a few different grinds available for the early Hemi’s.

Danny,

Agreed.  Those few of us who were "fortunate" enough to experience the infamous Isky cam that George Riehl favored in the early 2000s can attest to this.  Low vacuum, etc., not good for the 300-B on the street.

I have seen advertisements for mean sounding cams with lopey idles but are meant to be run in street cars.  Unfortunately, the low demand means few cams of any kind are available for these cars.  Probably best to speak with some of the cam manufacturers (like Clay Smith or Howard) to see if they have anything they can make that would fit the bill.

It is a very bad idea to install a high performance camshaft in a heavy car with an automatic transmission for the purpose of creating an impressive idle. Your customer will wind up with a stone that sounds as though it needs a tune up. You are better off pulling a plug wire.

High performance cams with high lift, duration and overlap are intended to move peak useful power up the RPM band, mostly for competition purposes.

Most fellas I know who sought a cam shaft for an impressive idle were sorely disappointed when the car had less low speed power and more fowled plugs. I strongly advise against using anything but the stock camshaft grind unless one is going racing. That is a different story. But for tooling around on the streets with a letter car, a "performance" cam will be a liability.
