agree totally . What goes wrong when heat riser sticking is really bad, cooked carb hard starting when hot after shutoff and melted ram floor ( latter happened to me) . The 1/4 “ hole in a washer and no butterfly plate keeps stock look .Kind of in between answer. Same goes on with non ram , you see paint burned off under carb . Having been around these since new ( and back when hearing worked) there was a very characteristic ram rattle at idle — you can hear them . Once stuck you don’t , stuff is cooking poor running etc . Often think abut that at, meets , but don’t want to intrude or be debbie downer but a lot are driven around stuck . . Given all this is very real , the trade vs “feathering “ it for a minute and dialing back choke a bit so it comes fully off is a no brainer . Unless you drive a few times a week it rusts . The right lube has to help if you insist on keeping it . ( not me) maybe silicone based hi temp ?
-- Sent from my iPhone not by choice I've been cold starting a Ram Inducted 413 in my Savoy since 2007, has headers, no carb heat. 30 seconds of feathering until stable and off she goes. Many of my friends with all kinds of old cars purposely disable the crossover heat. At this point, with our ancient vehicles being relegated to 'fair weather' use, is it just better to make sure the manifold valves are in the 'open' position? On a nice day with ambient temps above 50 degrees, it doesn't take long for carbs to be heated up sufficiently to operate satisfactorily.
