Dust and dirt plugs them up
I carry a couple drinking straws and use them to blow the tubes out when I wash the car or when I see water standing in the deck lid catch-all

Subject: Re: {Chrysler 300} 1960 Chrysler drain tubes
I have four binders of 1960 Chrysler/Imperial bulletins. I'll look through them tonight but at first glance I don't see one for that. I do see one for Imperial luggage compartment leaks. I'll have to look at the whole bulletin to see if it covers that.
Interesting thought. If dealer installed then there might be a Service Bulletin issued in 1960 to that effect.

My F 8403150442 with a shipping date of 5/9 does not have the drain tubes in the trunk lip and it's pretty original.
Could they have been dealer installed to address complaints of owners early on?
This is about those rubber drain tubes that
drain the trunk lip. They run down inside the trunk
and out through the trunk floor.
I have one F with them and one F without them.
The car without tubes has a May 13 build date.
The car with tubes has a March 30 build date
so it isn't one of those "early build
versus late build" explanations.
I wonder if 1960 NYr or Windors got drain tubes?
What about 1961? Same trunk design, but I've
never seen a 61 with them. Have you?
You could let me know if your F has them and
your build date and I'll make a table. Maybe there
is logic, maybe not.
By the way, has anyone ever checked to see if these things
actually work? I think the diameter of
these tubes is too small. The last time I washed
the car water sat on top of the tubes.
I also see standing water in the deck lid wheel cover
after rain or washing which tells me
the drain tube there is again too small.
I'm not suggesting we drill bigger holes
and install bigger tubes, just saying
I think drains might have been a good idea
that maybe didn't work in practice.
