You may be right re the 3 piece moulding vs the two piece moulding.

I have over 20 cars that I collected data on so far, and I don't feel ready to draw any conclusion yet myself, the total number of cars in this unscientific study being too low vs total production numbers... 

I also thought of the possibility of the factory installed moulding being the 3 piece types on all 300's originally and those cars having the other type would have been the victims of a change over during a restoration process or at some point in time for whatever reason...

But the one joint rear moulding car we are working on is a 58K miles , original paint car, and although it is possible the moulding was changed, it sure seems to me like it had never been removed from the car. This car has never been restored as far as I can tell.

What I can share with the group right now is : 

 -The cars I have data on that were built in March, April or May all have 3 joint mouldings.

1 joint mouldings appear on some cars with an SO # in January, February and June. Those months also show cars having a 3 joint moulding.

So far the vast majority of cars have a 3 joint moulding ( 80%).

I sure would like to get more data to present a hypothesis of this moulding situation...

Re the 300-F rear window trim question you recently raised, I've reviewed the various email responses, and also gone through some of my photo archives. I believe that all 300-Fs were outfitted with the 3-joint upper rear window trim from the factory. I'm guessing the single-joint trim piece set you're looking at was taken from a '61 or '62 Chrysler.  

 

The 9 responses to our listserver, plus my F, my two local buddies' Fs, Mike Burke's F, Joe Jordan's 'P-a-M' F, having build dates scattered between early January and mid-June 1960, all have 3-joint trim. From the reference materials I've seen, all 300-Fs were built at Jefferson Avenue assembly complex.

 

Looking at my photo archives, the '61 and '62 300 coupes I see all have a single-joint trim. The '61 DeSoto also had single-joint trim. It sure appears that Chrysler redesigned the trim for simpler assembly and fewer parts for its '61/'62 coupes.

According to the Standard Catalog of American Cars, all 1960 300F were built in Detroit...so they say in their 1960 Chrysler I.D. numbers section...so can't be a plant difference if they are all built at the same place.

I believe the F's were made in two different plants. Detroit and Los Angeles, I believe.

Hi 300 fans.

I'm just curious as to why some 300F have a single joint at the rear glass upper stainless trim and some have three joints up there.

A running change or just randomly placing the two types??

Working on an F that has a SO # number of 0219 ( Feb 19) and it has a single joint in the upper trim.

My own F has a SO # of 0401 ( April 1st) and it has a three piece affair.

My G has a single rear joint trim...

Anybody know anything about this?
