Re: [Chrysler300] Front brakes

If the wheels lock, its not the brakes that affect stopping distance, its your tires, actually, even if threshold braking, its the tires. Funny, most people associate stopping, to the actual brakes themselves, rotors, calipers, etc..... but if your tires are not up to the task..... it doesnt matter how big a rotor, or how many pistons you have in your calipers..... yes, of course there is brake fade, but that us usually tied to drum brakes, but unless youre road racing boiling the brake fluid (which I doubt many of you are), this shouldnt be an issue, especially if this involves, the hopefully rare, panic stop. If you want better braking, start with the tires....... of course, many of us like the original look of the bias tires of yesteryear..... unfortunatly, they perform like old tires when braking. Point being, look at your tires first...... as it wont matter how much you put into brake components, if the tires cant handle the job..... remember.... its the tires that contact the road, not the rotors and calipers!

I put the AAJ disc brakes on my 62 3000 Sport when it had 14 " wheel. A few years later I switched to 15" wheels, without any modifications, and it still stops very good.

You are correct , AAJ has a kit with 11 3/4 rotors . Requires 15 “ wheels . The smaller rotor does not cut it for  me ; works great daily driving but emergency stop not so great, compared to later cars .... Wheel aspect complicates  all this .

The disc brake kit for the G (standard 15" wheels) uses a larger rotor than the kit for a C (14" wheels).  If you're going to go up to 15" wheels on your C, you could use the G kit to get bigger rotors, but then you can't go back to the 14" wheels.

Hi ,
I know this has gone around a few times , but wondering on paper if anyone has put larger brakes than the AAJ kit ( which I —And many others — have used) on an F , orG/H , which might be allowed by going larger than 14” wheels — on say 57-60 ?
16 “ not out of question if larger discs might fit somehow .?
While the AAJ kit works fine , the stopping ability in terms of deceleration is about the same as the 300 drums imho , ( the first stop) but probably a lot less hassle to most daily drivers . So great for what it is.
But if you drive a recent car , it is another whole world . A friend has a magnum RT wagon , discs must be 14” across . It really stops . 300 were great in the day — but much better out there now .
Thoughts welcome .
Prompted too by a rear end crash in my dart , I almost escaped , by a foot or so — while literally standing on brake pedal .= 9 or 10” drums don’t cut it either .
Watch out for 17 yo kids suddenly making left turns on undivided 4 lanes , a car ahead , guy / girl in front of you messing with cell . It can happen to you .
