Sounds good , the graphite, but did not quite work out that way; they all fail, more or less. similar stuff goes on in our park brake cables . I notice the oil -if you dose it a few times vertically over a week or so - sort of permeates the spaces in the speedo spiral and also the spaces between strands on parking brake housing outer wire assembly . Outside even gets a little oily . I have seen many speedo cables and park cables , push button cables — rusty on outside and jammed or high friction inside — when you see that outer housing rust — usually under the car . . Not good inside . As I get older I tend to judge what I have seen and taken apart as much more credible than “ expert advice” which often is not expert at all . In fact just opinion . Just sayin .. to each his own !!
If cable outside is oily , it is not rusting . Spaces May even act as a well for lubricant . 350 k on 67 dart , noisy jumping speedo with rusty outer housing 30 years ago . No new parts — but did this . Perfect ... but freeing up speedo head and odometer gearing , getting rid of tar that was grease and lubing it, is as least as important , or a new cable does same thing as old one .. you can even fix broken outer housing By crimping on a copper tubing sleeve and then shrink tube over whole length for appearance or just part under car . People here are talking about the one that pulls out I think ... by the way , graphite lube seems not to work well imho long term , causes drag , noise and gear failure and speedo jump . I string it up ( whole cable ) and run Mobil 10-30 down it leave hanging a week . No more problems . Like white grease , a lot of these things I think are marketing scams ; no doubt the Mobil picks up some graphite , but oil won’t get hard. The question was about reproduction gears, and they are not being made to my knowledge. I’m currently looking for an 18 tooth for my ’65 Barracuda project and not found any. Try jc auto Somewhere stored away, I have a pack of several gears with different teeth that I obtained years ago for my 300E. I'll try to find them.

The plastic gear that lives on the end of the Speedometer Cable (transmission side, of course) has some wear to the gear splines. Anyone making those little gears? My 1962 300 has a 150 mph speedometer & 15" wheels. Forgot what the rear end gear ratio is..
