RE: [Chrysler300] 300 G Convertible on Ebay

Michael,

I think you’re correct on the car belonging to Randy Hastie.  He pulled the car, a 300F convertible, out of an area in the flatlands, near the San Francisco bay near Hayward or Newark as I recall.  He trailered it to a 300 Inc. meet in Reno in 1985.  I have a slide of it, with a hay bale in the back seat, but I have to find it and scan it in.  As I recall, it was rough, but “California rough”, full of dents and beat up, but I don’t recall much rust.  That car was fully restored and shown at the 1999 Newark meet the Larry Jett hosted.  I think Randy took Best of Show that year with another 300 he brought.

When I became a  member years ago, there was usually an ad in Hemmings for a company which would make you a new plate like the one on my 300H door jamb. My iunerstanding was you could change the color code etc, Uncle Sam made them stop selling them I heard.

About the 300G convert: There was a man who bought a 300G convertible which had a huge amount of rust and bent panels.  He wrote a series of articles about saving the car which ended up looking terrific.. I think he called it something like "Raggedy Ann”. I’m not sufre what club it was and it cojld have been Randy Hasty (???).

Bob & All,

I too have a 300G conv. that the both the trim plate and VIN number tag have rusted off or fell off.

Second point, it is not a crime to move or switch Vin tags on cars as long as there no intent to further the theft of a motor vehicle.  See Office of the Law Revision Counsel, U. S. House of Representatives Title 18 Sec. 511. If you want to check it out yourself, go to http://uscode.house.gov   and do a search for title 18.

There is more than a few things of concern here.  The VIN is screwed on, dead wrong, should be spot welded.  The trim code plate (aka fender tag) is rotted and I suspect it and the VIN may be from a different car,  Caveat Emptor.  It’s a felony to mess with VIN tags by the way.

   Greetings all,

Anyone know the story on the above ? The last 6 of the vin are 139914 & the item number 163809782724. Car looks decent with a carpeted trunk and a couple of incorrect things.
