In my experience with quite a few ball and trunion u-joints it is the outer cast iron housing that has always been the problem. It's not so much the "clunk" as it is a vibration during low speed acceleration and again at highway speeds. In more advanced wear condition the "clunk" becomes a bigger issue. I'm presently running my '55 with a 3/16" spacer between the transmission output hub and the u-joint housing. Having that spacer in place forces the balls to roll through an unworn range on the cylinder surface in the housing and vibration is completely eliminated. Mine's not worn enough to cause a clunk. I have a new unit to install and that will happen before very long. --------Marshall Goodknight Please note: message attached From: "Ray Melton rfmelton@xxxxxxx [Chrysler300]" <Chrysler300-noreply@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: Bob Merritt <bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>, "Chrysler 300 Club, Int'l" <chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, "kboonstra@xxxxxxxxxxxx" <kboonstra@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Cc: Bob Merritt <bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>, "Chrysler 300 Club, Int'l" <chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [Chrysler300] Driveshaft "clunk" on 1957 300C Date: Fri, 19 Oct 2018 17:21:06 +0000 ____________________________________________________________ The #1 Income Investment Today The Legacy Report http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3131/5bca4d76713284d763843st01duc [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ Posted by: "mgoodknight@xxxxxxxx" <mgoodknight@xxxxxxxx> ------------------------------------ To send a message to this group, send an email to: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or go to https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/all/manage/edit For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/search.htm#querylang ------------------------------------ Yahoo Groups Links <*> To visit your group on the web, go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Chrysler300/ <*> Your email settings: Individual Email | Traditional <*> To change settings online go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Chrysler300/join (Yahoo!
