Re: [Chrysler300] 300L Red Pinstripe Color

The tape solution is an alternative that is much less messy and time consuming than masking and spraying paint and probably little noticed by most people.  The real purists and concours judges of course would instantly notice it.  Personally I like the soft edges of a lightly sprayed stripe inside the recessed area of the stainless trim.  Tape, by design, has to have a definite break at the edges.  Also, there is a very small triangle of color on one end of the chrome door handle.  Tape would practically be impossible to put in that area and stick properly.  As 300L people should know, the area of the door handle where one's fingernails go when pulling open the door does not get painted.

Yes, the original stripe can get faded rather quickly.  Any polish will wipe it away in a hurry.  I have never used anything but pure paste wax on the stripe of my L.  NO cleaner!  Only one little area has any evidence of being worn. Keeping out of the sun when stored will help.  It is original only once.

Dito, I found a red tape that closely matched the original red that remained. Installed it in minutes and it not only looks great but is more durable than original and no need to touch it up. Cheap and very effective solution.

If your being judged in a concours it would be an issue. Nobody else will judge you on this!

The "Lefty" answer........find a roll of wide tape at an auto paint store, peel it off and attach to the valley on the side moldings, and nobody will ever ask about it or point out it is not exactly the 'correct' shade of red and you can move on with life. Worked for me years ago.   The L, one of the best cars I ever had.
