The listserver is an excellent resource. But if Yahoo
pulls the plug, we need to have a plan in place to transition to a different
format and have someone from the ECC ready to handle it when it
happens.

the Listserver
Personally, I'm just thrilled we have a list server, and am extremely
grateful for the volunteer(s) who set it up and maintain it. I hope all
of the "chatter" re alternatives doesn't diminish the enthusiasm of those who
make this possible, as it is still a great resource. If yahoo groups
goes away, there may be no other choice than to look at alternatives, but I'm
concerned the "complaints," or "suggestions," might be taken badly by whoever
is doing this extraordinarily valuable work for the benefit of the club.
I just want to say thank you for what we have, and
I personally think it is both functional and invaluable.

I agree MB
one is stellar..maybe almost too much…
MBWorld.org has a great
forum for Benz owners. We could have a forum set up for each letter
car and then sub-forums for interior, engine etc.

I would
agree that a more sophisticated forum set up the Desoto and ForwardLook
group have would be useful. I also belong to another car club with a
similar style forum that can be viewed as an example at www.thelincolnmarkviiclub.org
. Using the exampled forum format is conducive to storing and
searching archives without people asking the same question over and over
again. Plus, you can attach pictures.

Listserver
Since our listserver is hosted by
Yahoo, and since Yahoo is being chopped up and sold for parts, I was
wondering whether it might be wise to explore other avenues. It's a fairly
likely scenario that Yahoogroups will be shut down since it's regarded as
a relic and probably doesn't make any money.

A forum would work -- hadn't
thought about that -- good suggestion. Facebook, however. is not a
good idea -- not at all. You would probably be surprised at how many
people do not use Facebook at all. Yours truly included. **One reason**
is that Facebook does far too much tracking of their members'
movements around the Internet.

A forum link on our website would be one option.
Another would be a usable Facebook page. Just sayin’.
