Hi Bob, Just attach to manifold vacuum ; at the best A/F ratio at idle , the vacuum and RPM rise , you go for high vacuum with idle screws, then back RPM down, with air valves , do a few times , (it interacts) while keeping all 4 idle screws open about that same..Idle valves the same ; put band on them or stripe with magic marker, like an arrowhead so you know .That assumes good tapers, why the Edelbrock stuff, Doing it by some kind of magic ear wastes a few days! Smile. Easy with vacuum gauge like Andy says. Unisyn is more for air flow matching, ---just counting air valve location off zero on 300 ram carbs ought to do that, keep the same air flow. Unisyn very good for setting air flow for multiple carbs , when each has an idle or throttle stop. Fussiness of air flow is probably at idle why these carbs have an air valvc not a throttle stop ..that and simultaneous opening off the stop of both sides of engine. Where is the stop to be adjusted then? Needs to be involved with linkage then. The rams are really more like two 4 cylinder engines., on mixture/ idle airflow things. I doubt mixture goes across balance hose ..it should not. Obviously be sure both carbs are 100% closed throttles at start of this. Can’t help but note how parallel the air valves are to later IAC motor controlled air valve for idle on modern FI systems! We are doing same thing! I do the same thing, Andy…it works!! I have big 6” vacuum gauge off an old Sun test stand..you can really see what is going on. Once you do that , you realize how futile adjusting the ram mixture screws by listening etc is . The Golden screwdriver does not work. Why the needles are often “ringed” half way down the taper from thousands of adjustments. I may have mentioned before but Edelbrock needles are slightly different taper , and of heavier construction--- they fix that problem with worn needles really well . I think they contact inside the carb body at a new place. Whatever---- it fixes “the needles don’t change anything” syndrome . They fit right in. Look at your needles..if obvious wear rings around what is supposed to be a smooth taper, they turn on and off abruptly as worn part seats, , drives you crazy… From: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Andy Mikonis r41hp@xxxxxxxxx [Chrysler300] Sent: Monday, March 14, 2016 5:08 PM To: chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [Chrysler300] 300-F Anti-stall Dash Pot Vacuum I have one 1961 Chrysler Tune-Up chart - source unknown - that says all engines 19.5" at idle. Does it normally take 20 inches to even begin to move that dash pot finger and even more to do the job that it is supposed to do (assuming it is adjusted correctly)? Some engines don't even have that much vacuum??? Thanks for any experiences on this subject.
