RE: [Chrysler300] Power Window Gearbox Failure

Merle Wolfer has on line a detailed article on re-building the window gearbox unit failures at:

http://www.chrysler300club.com/6064window.pdf

This has pictures and instructions that covers all the details (1960-1964).  All you would need is a supply of the gear itself which it sounds is available already. I haven't had to do this yet, but my turn is probably coming soon.

Thanks John. Glad to hear that there is a potential solution. Can you give me more info? I would like to buy 4 of those gears, and I need to know if I can send my bad gearbox to whoever and have a new gear pressed on. Thankx again! Terry

Hi Terry , I have made a few prototypes and then about 25 all metal gears of aluminum bronze . Had to cnc whole gear works very well . All the F style nylon gears will fail .. They get hard in oil and split around the rim . J-y up in Canada is running with this , as we had to make some simple tools to press gear off etc . So he can fix F box . May work for other years . This is the most commin box we think . We will also sell loose gears for those who can do it . We have the cnc program for a matsura cnc mill

For once , good news !.

Terry McTaggart here. Over the last few years, I have experianced two failures in the power window gearboxes in my 300F. Both failures were identical, in that the plastic gear teeth surrounding the metal disk inside the gearbox broke, rendering the gearbox useless. Fortunately I had two spares in the attic and was able to replace the offending part. Now, however, I have no more spares and the next failure (if there is one) will be a major problem. Has anyone else experienced this failure, and if so, might this be a good project for the repro committee?
