One final point from me regarding the Redline product - click open the website in Bob's email and scroll down to the mixture summaries. In short, use the whole 16 ounce bottle in order to get the Zinc concentration over the recommended 1600 PPM threshold, with a 5 or 6 quart oil change. (PS I'm old enough to have been educated in ounces/quarts/gallons, before Canada went on the metric system, and also remember the difference between a US and a (former) Canadian quart/gallon.) Easy to get, my local part store stocks it, about $10/ bottle, good for two changes. http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=121&pcid=21 I did notice that it thins out the oil a bit, and the pressure drops somewhat, so I go to a little heavier oil for those really hot summer days and use 20-50 with it. As well, remember that Rotella is formulated for diesel engines, meaning it has a very high detergent content. While a certain amount of detergent is inherent in all modern oils the amount required for diesels is considerably more, and can act as an abrasive in gasoline engines. It's therefore not a good idea to use Rotella in our old car engines. The Joe Gibbs and other racing oils that contain zinc / ZDDP are probably best. The key is to check the product and ensure the zinc content is at least 1,600 parts per million. There was an oil in the US market for a while called Z-Alt that met that specification. However, their website is no longer working, so I don't know if the company is still in business. It was about $10/US quart as I recall. In western Canada, Boss Lubricants makes a 15-40 weight with 1,600 PPM zinc content called CAM Oil. They list stores on their website in the four western provinces, including the NAPA stores in this region. It sells for about $7.00/liter/US quart. Their website is www.camoils.com . I don't know if it can be shipped to the US, but that would likely make it too costly anyway. Spring was here and then winter came back this weekend! One of the first things to do is an oil change. Is Rotella still the oil of preference for our old style engines?
