Let me add this from back in the day. Way too many years ago, while working in a Dealership which had American Motors, we had a transmission problem with some of them. Don't remember what it was, but we had to rebuild quite a few. They were Mopar 727's, somewhat changed to their spec's. My buddy on the next lift called me over when I got back from road-testing the one I just finished and told me he was stuck. He had a shift problem and had just pulled the valve body out again after the 4th road-test, having the same problem with each test. having just finished my O/H, I looked at the Valve body and pointed out to him that one check ball was in the wrong place. He had not realized it and each time it went back together the same way with the same results. Moved the ball over to the correct passage and it was perfect on the final test. Point being that there may be something very simple wrong, and unnoticed. Don will get it right, I'm sure.
