Hi Mark,

There are specific pliers for the spring clamps used on the hoses. I have a set which were easily ordered. I can't remember if I got them from the local Snap On guy or possibly thru CarQuest. I think they are simply called spring clamp pliers. Makes life much easier and less of a need for eye protection.
