A few years ago I bought a gel battery from Antique Auto Battery for $255 at Spring Carlisle. It lasted two years. I replaced it with a new battery from the retail outlet at DEKA Batteries (makers of Auto Zone's Duralast batteries) in Lyon Station, PA. I got one with the two rectangular vent caps covering sx vent holes. I pried off the vent caps to expose the six holes on top of the battery, then salvaged the red caps from the gel battery and forced them into the new battery holes. I had to file off a little of the plastic threads on each cap to make them fit snugly into the holes. Then I slapped on one of those Mopar Battery stickers to the front side. The end result is a new modern battery with the appearance of an original. I don't have pics here at work but if you'd like to see it, I can send you a pic tonight when I get home.

I've been reading the reproduction battery stories and discussing them with
wners for several years and have observed the following:  
Reproduction MoPar, Auto-Lite and Willard batteries are available from
everal sources.

They are very expensive to purchase and ship-up to twice as much as a
tandard battery.
Their longevity is not great.  Purchasers are often disappointed in the
ppearance, configuration of posts, cost and performance of these
eproductions.
Their cranking capacity is less than may be available from readily-available
remium batteries, such as Interstate, DieHard.  Costco's Kirkland batteries
re highly rated and bargain priced.  Interstate has an online catalog of

Some of our old Brutes need all the cranking power they can get to pull
oday's motor fuels into the carb bowls.
Reproduction tar tops and complete empty cases are available and may or may
ot be used to encase the new gel batteries such as Optimas.
I understand the Optima batteries like a slightly higher (0.35-0.70 Volts
igher) charging voltage as compared to the 13.3-14.3 Volts specified in the
64 Chrysler service manual.

Chrysler 300 Club judging does not delete points for generic black
atteries, especially if the non-original decals and stickers are removed.
hey may award extra points in concours judging for a reproduction battery.
Reproduction side and end stickers are available to stick on a new, modern,
igh-capacity, long-lived and maintenance-free batteries.
Proper cables, cable ends, bolts and hold-down hardware in good condition
dds a lot to under-hood appearance.
 
We'd like to hear from anyone who has experienced satisfactory to good
esults from any of the vendors listed or any other vendor or solution to
he vintage battery issue.  Until then, Google, study and shop for something
hat suits your fancy, enhances the underhood appearance of your Chrysler
00, cranks and starts the engine under all conditions and doesn't leave you
tranded at the side of the road.
 
I'm using Interstate's "Workaholic" Group 2-XHD battery in my '55, peeled
ff the stickers, painted the filler plugs red and replaced the cables.  It
ooks just fine.

nd will crank all day.
 
It appears a Group 27 battery was standard in my 300K and further study
hows there is also a Group 27F with reversed terminals.  I think the F
tands for Ford-with maybe GM & MoPars the plain Group 24 or 27.  The Group
7 batteries are about 1.8" longer than the Group 24's.  I'll be needing one
oon.
 
I've seen various configurations of these batteries in '64's with
tretched/extended cables and posts to the center or to the edge of the
ngine compartment.  Which is correct for a K?  24, 24F, 27, 27F???  Battery
ounted with terminals closest to the left fender edge or closest to the
ngine?  Positive terminal to the front or rear?

I've always understood that the Willard Battery was used in at least the
arly 50s. Picked up a bunch of new condition Willard signs from the local
ealership some years back.

I don't know if this was still true by 1958, but the 1950 DeSoto that my
ather bought new came with a Willard Battery. I think Chrysler Corp. used
everal brands of batteries during that time and Willard was one of them.

I did some reserch to try and find what the original Battery was for my 61
00-G. I read that the original batteries were not Mopar batteries but some
ther brand. I have seen some old pictures were you could read Autolite
rinted on the battery. I read somewhere that the dealers sold Mopar
atteries as replacements only. Not sure if that is true, maybe someone else
ill comment on this.

Does anyone know what battery was factory in 1958? I see repros with the
oPar logo, but don't know if they are correct?
