I recently did upper control arm bushes on my 2nd still part restored 300C. Yes, there is a smaller (wrong) diameter '57 Chrysler bush you can buy, but my guess is that it is for Plymouth, Dodge etc 1957 until I don't know when. Then as indicated, 1960 Chrysler (Imperial for sure, and likely NY etc?), used a larger (wrong also) size bushing than used on 300C models. For '57 300s, Moog made, or maybe possibly still make them, plus old stock ones seem to carry "Harris" on one lip/edge of rubber centres. And about 3 monthsago, there were a couple of old pairs of NOS Chrysler ones on ebay - I bought a set just to keep/compare. On my experinces, they seem to fail before most other 300C suspension pieces , plus fail where on 60 models, larger bushes used there seemed to fix this?! - PLUS BE WARNED, WHEN YOU FIT THE REBUSHED CONTROL ARM TO FRAME OF CAR, MAKE SURE YOU JACK LOWER ARM UP HIGH, TO NEAR AS IT WOULD SIT WHEN CAR DRIVING DOWN ROAD - as otherwise if you tightened securing bolt first with arms hanging down, then when you let the car/jack down, the rubber centre/bush will already be twisted so bad one way, it can tear the vulcanising away from stell other parts, and the bush will fail real fast. If arms are at car at ride height when you tightened the nut/bolt, then the rubber centre part of bush is at mid point, has equal travel/twist both directions (up/down) Tell me if I wrong re this point, but that is how it must be done I figure ?! Question - has anyone put '60 upper control arms on '57 300s - the bolt diameter etc I think is same size both different years/models, so if upper arm same re 'ball joint and size the how it is re ball joint to frame', then it could be a straight swap, that also gets around '57 bushes being weak, plus hard/expensive to get/buy than '60 ones ?! We had the same problem with the 58 300D we restored. The bushings from suppliers are 0.94 OD. I do not recall the exact size of the bushings we removed, but they were bigger than 0.94 , actually they were in between that 0.94 and the 1.13 size of a 1960 bushing and we just could not find that particular 1958 size bushing. What we had to do is bring the upper control arms to a machine shop, they oversize the bushing hole and then pressed and welded a single piece of pipe thru the holes, cut the pipe section that is inside the A arm, then machined the hole to accept 1960 300 or NY bushings...they are readily available and at 1.13 in size, I think they are a better bushing than the small 0.94 bushing...The control arm is thick enough to be able to do the modification, the bigger bushing should last longer. If you cannot find the correct 1958 size bushing, this modification may be your only option... I took some pictures of the modification we did, if you are interested, let me know and I will dig them out... Jean-Yves Chouinard.
