As I recall, most of my Mopars came with only two keys. My first ever car was a '51 Plymouth with just two keys. I am sure that if you took one of your keys and either your glove box lock or your trunk lock to a competent locksmith, they could rekey the lock to your key or possibly rekey the lock to some random combination and make a new key to fit it. Of course they probably would NOT have an aluminum key blank, it would probably be a brass key blank. I think that you can still order aluminum key blanks from E-Pay, but they are not cheap. I think there are at least two distinct styles of aluminum key patterns (not just the shape of the key but I am talking about the stamping on the keys) depending on what year they were intended for. This might make an interesting article (with photo examples) for the website, if someone is an "expert" on this subject. My '50 DeSoto (bought new by my father so I know all locks are original) has three keys. I have the three original aluminum keys. The key for the doors and ignition has an octagon shape, the key for the glove box has a round shape, and the key for the trunk has a triangle shape. I know my '57 Plymouth had only two keys. Just checked my 300H. Its glove box key fits the deck lock as well. Interestingly, the same 300H trunk key I've used all these years fits the 300F deck lock too! Anyway, more to the point, the front cover of the 1957 Chrysler Owner's Manual shows a gentleman's hand dropping TWO keys into a lady's gloved hand. Inside, under "facts about keys and locks" it states: "The key with the medallion head is for door locks and ignition, the one with the round head is for glove and luggage compartment locks". And no, my 300H glove box/trunk key does not fit the 300F glove box two! I think it is just a matter of the things wearing out over the many years of use, and being replaced with whatever was most easily---and least expensively, available. 300ly, Gil C.
