I would go for the stat replacement. You can test in hot water. Just before
boil it should be fully open.

Subject: [Chrysler300] 1962 300 - Cooling Question
Here's a constant temporary issue I am having....
When car is cold, from sitting all night...
It starts up fine, I warm it up for 2 minutes and then start to drive.
About 5 minutes into the drive the temperature guage begins it s ascent to
it's
normal spot; just about a quarter of the way up from the dead cold
position.
Then the needle keeps going, all the way to the HOT position, where it
sits for
a minute...and then it creeps back down to the quarter mark.
Here is what I have done to date:
- Pulled the NEWER radiator and had it flushed
- Flushed the block out twice
- Water Pump is fairly new on the 45,000, new everything, motor
- Newer Hoses are not collapsing
- Heater core is clean and works
- I have "burped" the radiator
All I can think of is that the Thermostat is taking too long to fully open
and
needs to be replaced??
Who's with me?
(Just a pain in having to lift up that A/C Compressor to make that
change.)
Thanks!
Matt Allyn
