What about the Slick 50 ? Think I might have a bottle of it on the shelf. all I 
can remember is that the "teflon particles" were filtered out the first few 
miles and might clog the filter.

I change the oil in the old cars (and some of the low milage newer ones too) 
2500 to 3500 miles or 6 months and with less use. Plus the filter every 2nd 
change or annually. (point of this later) 

Since these cars grew up on and were designed for high ZDDE oils and especially 
the 300 or solid lifter cars. It is wise to use an oil which contains ZDDE the 
only two which confirm this to me are Royal Blue racing oil @ 15.65 / quart and 
Kendall GP-1 high performance at $3.60 per quart. The Royal Blue being 
Synthetic, at the price, is a no-brainer. Buy the Kendall and change it often. 
Even the SAE30 old fashion oil will be fine, even the rebuilt engines were 
originally cured with SAE30 and still retain that component (memory if you 
will). 

If it makes you feel good to blow 150$ on oil change twice a year go for it. It 
wont hurt anything but your pocket. But how many of you can remember SLICK 
50????

Synthetic oils don't make much sense, in my opinion to use in our cars. I 
find that I need to change the oil in my G often because it gets dirty, and 
may only have 1,000 to 2,000 miles on it. Most of our cars don't get driven 
much, and the high cost of synthetics is wasted as far as I'm concerned. 
Redline makes a good additive for breaking in new engines and adding to the 
oil of any flat tappet motor. The other consideration is to use a good 
multi viscosity oil made for diesel engines, which still has the additives 
in the oil. Chevron Delo comes to mind. 

As far as the transmission goes, stick with Type F transmission fluid as 
George Riehl has recommended for years. Hopefully that will be around for a 
while.
