I haven't seen anyone mentioning the other more likely reason the pulleys were not alined. That could be that the rubber mounted pulley sheeve on the Harmonic Balancer has moved forward some.  You might want to check that.

And, you always want to check the front cover. I have seen several that were eaten out from the impeller blades going deeper and deeper as the wear increased.
When a new pump is installed, there will be too much clearance behind the blades and not enough water will be pumped.

A/C units do have (6) six vein impellers and the non-A/C had (8) eight. I
was told they turn the a/c pump at higher rpm's. That would mean the pulley
diameters are different for a/c.
All the more reason to use roller bearings.
Maybe the differences could be a good tech article on the club site. I could
get photos of the 6 & 8 impellers.
