Gil is once again always so helpful re so simply sorting out the odd 300 historical questions. And once again it shows how sometimes people's wrong views on historical facts re old cars can get thrown out of whack - it took Gil stating below that seat belts became "Standard" issue fitment, to understand when factory seat belts were introduced and by whom, and how that worked re 300s. Whereas Factory Seat Belts were clearly available from Ford and Chrysler around 1956 -57, before they became standard equipment later, I would say Gil is likely 100% correct saying it took Chrysler to be the first to make them standard equipment on the dates he lists below. BEFORE THAT THEY CLEARLY WERE JUST A FACTORY OPTION - like at Ford in 1957, where they were only installed cars they ordered with them, they not in every car. And thanks to the other Club Member who stated that before they became standard Chrysler issue/fitment, that they were seemingly if ordered, likely then were often supplied to the Dealer to fit, AND YES THEY CAN BE MONGRELS TO FIT, AS ANY DRILLING THROUGH THE CARPET WILL SO OFTEN GRAB THE CARPET AND TEAR A STRIPE IN IT BY DRILL BIT GRABBING THE LOOP/PILE - so be warned if deciding to install belts on earlier 300s without the factory holes through floorpan - do NOT DRILL THOUGH THE CARPET. That may be why Chrysler moved away from the earlier pre '62 types, and the factory then also provided the needed holes/mounts in floor so no drilling needed. And so others can get peace from this subject, I will send photos of my '57 Mopar belts to Club photo man Bob so he can post them on Club Tech site, so in future when topic comes up again, we can just say refer to Club Tech page. Hope so, as I want to clarify just a couple things. 1. There were NO factory seat belts available for the 300F, (or 300G, for that matter.) 2. The 300H was the FIRST American car to have front seat belts as standard equipment. The earliest date I can find is January of 1962 on a Chrysler publication. It states they were "Factory Installed", and that they carried the traditional 300 red white and blue emblem on the buckles. 3. Color. A Chrysler Mopar accessories publication dated September 1961 (or later, can't read the first few letters of the month) advises of the availability of seat belt packages from Chrysler dealers for all models. For the models in which the belt goes thru the seat back, and requires a grommet, it specifically states 1960, 61, and 62 usage. This "universal seat belt" part number is 2298 749. These are NOT the same belts as the 300H. They appear to have a "nubby" webbing and are clearly the Hickok brand. They do have the metal to metal buckle with no visible logo. Oh yes,----color!
