RE: [Chrysler300] Vintage Tags

In CA, I went on line to order a personalized plate and asked for 1955 300.
The website first said no one had that one, so I went to the next page to
order it and was told I could not have it. I e-mailed them asking why not
and was told CA plates with all characters being digits were reserved for
governmental vehicles like fire trucks, garbage trucks, snow plows, cop
cars, dog catcher & etc. They are at about 1300000+ now, so 1955300 won't
be issued for years.

So I switched to partial Roman numerals 1955 CCC. Not very clever and very
few "get" it, so pretty much a private story. My Hispanic friends and car
show visitors tell me our car is a Trescientos, but that won't fit on a
plate. With over 10 million cars on the road in CA, many clever plates are
already taken and displayed as attempt to individualize, customize and
personalize collector cars, hot rods, Jeeps "IAJTYWU", minivans and
everything else.

The base CA auto license plates are the same for 1951-55, stamped 19 in the
lower LH corner and 51 in the lower RH corner with little tags issued 52-55
to cover the 51 for the rear plate only. Yellow characters on black plates.
Some owners of '52-'55 cars with vintage plates put the little tab on the
front plate, also, to reduce confusion. A current year sticker must also be
displayed on the back plate and is often affixed to a little added stick-up
tab. I understand the plate year must match the car model year and the
plate must be cleared by the DMV to assure no duplication as there has been
some repetition of format.

At last renewal, it cost Registration $56, County "Fee" $10, Special Plate
$30 & Property Tax $129-total $225. All fees are expected to go up in the
near future as the state has a license to steel.

I do have a nice pair of 1990 Barton County Kansas plates with "DEJA VU" on
them if they are of any interest to a Jayhawker. I don't know if they can
be transferred. There is an avid group of license plate collectors and
vendors.

I'd like to thank all that responded to my post on olt car tags!!

Just as I suspected, a dozen different answers from as many states!
So much for being UNINTED!!

Back "in the day" Iowa plates by county (99 of 'em) were numbered
numerically, 1 thru 99 with my county, Delaware, #28. I have several queries
out in local rags looking for Delaware Co plates for the years I need. Hope
to get at least a one reply.

Thanks Again, Folks!!
