I hear a lot of talk about various brands of tires but I don't have any
hard evidence that one brand is superior to another. I guess tires are like
spark plugs and motor oil. Everyone has an opinion but there is no general
agreement on any one brand.
I am still trying to decide what to do for tires on my L. I am leaning
toward the 235 75R 14 American Classics from Coker. I believe they are the
only ones that have this size available. I was unable to get the club discount
from Coker. They told me the 25 tire order had not been active for more
than a year and that Eric Hawkins, our representative was no longer with
Coker. This will be the first time in my life I have paid over $1000 for four
tires.
The European 205 R 14 from Diamond Back (which I am told has an aspect
ratio the equivalent of an 88) still seems small. . I am interested in how they
will look as well as their performance although I do want the ride of a
radial. I don't put many miles on the L and none of them are much over 80
mph.
If anyone has any good suggestions about where to get the right tires for
the L I would appreciate hearing them. I have chased down Cooper dealers in
hopes of finding a 1" whitewall in a 225 75R 14 (this was available in the
Trendsetter line) but have had no luck there.
Has anyone tried 8:55 or 9:00 14 bias plys on an L? What is your
assessment of them from a ride and handling standpoint?
