A problem with the fuel/oil/temp gauges on my cousin's F Coupe - We got the car out of the body shop a couple weeks ago, and these 3 gauges are dead. They worked fine when the F went into the shop last November. One of the last things done was replacement of the generator regulator, because the old one wasn't working. Chapter 8, Page 52 of the 1960 Imperial/Chrysler Service Manual deals with this - • Condition b.: gauge pointers do not move when ignition switch is turned "ON." • Cause: Malfunctioning constant voltage regulator or an open circuit on battery side (input) of regulator. • Test: (1) Connect a voltmeter between the constant voltage regulator input terminal and ground. (2) Turn on ignition switch. A reading of approximately 12 volts indicates a defective regulator. No reading indicates an open circuit in wiring to the regulator. My voltmeter with positive clipped to the regulator terminal reads 12 volts with the ignition switch on or off. Let me also say I know very little about dealing with electrical issues. Thoughts on if it sounds like it's the new regulator? The body shop said it would be a loose connection at the ignition switch - but no work was done inside the car while it was there.
