Heading is pretty self explanatory, so hit delete now if not interested. A week on from the tragic Victorian bushfires of last weekend, there are still about 4 fires not yet fully contained before the weird cool weather southern Australia luckily has had since then is tipped to end by coming Wednesday. One fire about 80 miles north Victoria'a capital City of Melbourne has a total frontage/circuference of about 400 miles, and last night's TV News showed teams of specialist US Firefighters arriving. No more homes lost in last week, but number known lost on Saturday night a week ago is now just below 2000 homes. The hope is coming hotter weather later this week will be maybe not too dangerous. An upset Government Official has been featured trying to get the Police to prosecute a small Town Pub/Hotel owner - charged or prosecuted for using a parked Govt bulldozer to make a firebreak round the small town as they fire seemed it might come that way. He saved the town, and the bulldozer he put back where it would have got burnt but for his action. Plus it now looks like the Govt may be liable for huge total $$$$$ damage/losses, as it seems a faulty govt power line came down in the heat, and started this one of the so so devestating fires. Maybe that govt Official should take a holiday to reconsider?! For those US and Overseas 50s Mopar lovers, 300 owners - Yesterday I took my driver 300C to South Australia's biggest Annual American Car Show - usually 300-400 cars, this a smaller of Australia'a States, population about one and half million. Club running the show asked me and the car that drove in behind me (1957 Imperial Coupe !! built only weeks after my C, what are odds of these two so rare cars in Aust getting to entry gate at same time), to park in area set aside for about 8 featured rarer cars. There were also 2 other later Imperials, and proper 300L, '57-58 Plymouth Coupes, as well as red convert 57/58.Reason I mention this is a few years ago, one or two of these type 50s Mopars/cars would be rare at a show. And they are real popular, I was somewhat surprised at near all day, how there were often 3-5 people looking at my C - I thought most that would be interested would have seen it over the last 10 years I using it often daily in traffic, at maybe 30-90 mins a time. (lucky I cleaned the chrome wires and blew all the dirt/old mud and grass seeds out of carpets) Our first ever aussie to do it (drive Daytona 500) is currently running near the back of the Daytona - Marcus Ambrose, he a real good quiet driver, won our biggest National Championship before deciding to try the 'real biggest' a couple of years ago. Next weekend is Ballarat Swap - lots of 50s Mopar people there. Then about 5 weeks, Melb Formula 1 Grand Prix - not so sure my 'Flying Mile' Daytona (ex very briefly at the 1957 Daytona, but Daytona then only ran on Beach one last year, 1958, when after that, it until now it on Bill France's current banked superbowl) 300C will be going there. All was going great until I insisted panel guru not weld last bits of rebuilt lower quarters back in, unless car taken off 2 post hoist and sitting on ground/concrete, or say jacked up at rear with rear axle supported, so there zero risk of any distortion in new panelwork when car later sat on road. (This distortion should never happen, but any 300 restorers should be aware it better/safer to weld any large quarter sections with car sitting as it will on road, not up on jackstands under the frame or sills.) Car has sat unworked on while he finished couple of other cars to get more room in his small shop - I'll see if he is back into it this week, otherwise no F1 GP this year, unless everything I have to do after he finishes goes super well, which with cars happens how often !!?
