i use valvoline  20/50 racing oil. this is what valvoline recommends for our collectable cars. it runs about $4.50 per qt.  jim

Hi all you petrochemical junkies,

Larry Jett's comments on his "F" and oil pressures with subsequent answers of zinc considerations prompted me to contact Shell (found the website on the container of Rotella T) to determine if it still protected our "antique" engines cams and lifters.

Before all of you drain your Rotella T oil out of your rides, I offer the below 4 emails from my correspondence with Shell that indicate that we are still OK if we use Rotella T (either synthetic or regular) in our old engines without additional zinc additives. The 2009 zinc content is still sufficient in Rotella T to protect solid lifters and cams according to Shell with 1200 ppm of zinc which is thought to be the minimum for protection.

So the choice is yours, add ZDDPlus zinc additive to whatever non-diesel oil you use or Rotella T.

Hope this helps you decide how to protect your engines.
