Straightening and repair of any metal can be done with less stretching if
the piece being worked is placed on a tightly filled bag of sand.  The
sand will provide ample support but will allow the metal to move with out
stretching.  Pieces of very hard wood such as oak can be sanded to the
approximate profile desired and used as a punch.  Much care must still be
used.
