It appears my problem is in the switch mechanism. Anyone removed one of these before? How do you get at it? It appears from the exploded diagram in the car parts catalogue I have that it might be attached to the shift housing. Very difficult to see up there or from the face of the dash with the chrome shift button housing removed. Once removed, is it serviceable? Any help greatly appreciated.
