Re: [Chrysler300] steering tube

Dave.
The easiest way to remove the steering column in my opinion is to remove the entire unit as an assembly, instead of removing the inner shaft. You can even leave the steering wheel on if you want. Disconnect the wiring from under the column. The column is bolted under the dash, 2 bolts there on each side of the column, then you go to the bottom of the column and loosen up the big C-clamp there, slide it up the column a bit, that will give you access to the spring pin that holds the shaft to the steering box. The spring pin can be driven out any side with a hammer and good punch or a very hard nail the correct size(cut the end off). While you steering column is off, you can also inspect the small thin copper piece that makes your horn electrical connection thru the rubber insulator, located right there at the bottom end of the shaft...and replace if necessary...
Good luck!

I need some help on removing the directional signal bearing housing from the 64. I am trying to install the secondary rubber seal that I got from Gary. It goes all the way down to the floor boards.

I have the unit stripped and the upper shaft snap ring is out, just can,t pull the bearing housing up and off the shaft. Any one done this before? happy holiday
