I believe I heard the original material was vinyl and that it is hard to patch without heat. Repair kits are old, but probably just contain epoxy for repairs. The wheel on my '55 Chrysler is deteriorated from exposure to the sun. I have a street-grade restored wheel that was filled and repainted and now has some minor cracking where the big cracks were filled in and painted over. It is fine and looks a lot better than the original that is still waiting a complete resto. shop that can do it right.
