Andy, When I had the center piece re-chromed on my G, I was not happy with the finish for the same reason as I think you expressed. My biggest gripe was that the area around the center emblem mount - internally - was not shiny chrome, you could see the nickel (goldish color), I asked him to redo it, which he did, but it didn't come back much better. He told me it was very difficult to "Throw" chrome in that area. Seems they need to be able to place electrodes wherever chrome is desired and it is not possible to get electrodes in that area. I spoke with another plater who confirmed this. I have learned to live with it and really only notice on those days when I want to do a thorough cleaning. Seems like I remember seeing the similar situation on Ken Macks' red G, I think he complained about this as well. Good luck, Richard Osborne >>> Andy Mikonis <r41hp@xxxxxxxxx> >>> While we're on the topic of G grille restoration, how have your results been getting G grille centers rechromed? I recently had one done, and wasn't that happy with it. Specifically, the nickel shows though in between the outer and the center. George Riehl actually warned me about this years ago, so when I brought it in to my (ex)chrome guy, I asked him if he could get chrome in there, as well as fill the pits in that area. He replied "that's what I do." When it came back, the outer surfaces looked fine, but there was still pitting and discoloration in that in between area. He wasn't there and his employee said you can't get the chrome into a place like that(!) On the upside, his price was low on that piece compared to some other pieces I had him do. Maybe he wasn't happy with it himself? It'll probably won't be that noticeable when it's installed in the car, but anybody have thoughts/experiences with this? Andy yes, the next Club News is at the printers ____________________________________________________________________________________ Never miss a thing.
