There are hemi's older than you, so you may be seasoned to perfection and
even restored, but not yet a full classic antique.  It reads like its deja'
vu all over again every day at your place and sounds like a wonderful way to
live.

As a former Northern Natural Gas Company engineer and manager out of Lincoln
and Omaha, I recognize your home town of Oakland, NE and have hunted
pheasants in the area.  My C-300 came from Omaha after being restored there
in the early '90's.

My muffler guy has been in the business for over 50 years and says the
muffler shops are slowly going out of business as exhaust systems are
lasting longer.  He says that most muffler/tailpipe/header pipe material is
now aluminized with aluminum alloyed in with the steel to reduce corrosion.
Looks better longer.  He has a tube bender that works on a computer card for
each application and has a card for my '55.  There are probably a few of
these old time muffler shops still around that can fabricate and install a
proper header pipe.  Try Omaha, Sioux City or Council Bluffs.  

Chrysler used their own design pipe clamps and hangers on my '55 and perhaps
on your '62, also.  If you are striving for authenticity, finding and using
these clamps and hangers would be appropriate.  My muffler guy caters to the
street rod and classic car guys and also says that, for authenticity,
aluminized steel would not be appropriate as it was not available in the
'50's.  However, aluminized steel looks about like old carbon steel exhaust
system components looked when they were new--it just stays looking that way
as it does not oxidize or rust so rapidly.  I don't think our judges were
deducting for nice-appearing exhaust systems.

I could sure tell the difference between the old and new metallurgy when
looking under 300's at recent judged shows.  Mine looked like heck.  I'm
going to get the new steel for the tailpipes, anyway, as they have ironworm
disease.  The 3-chamber Flowmasters are non-stock, but are staying.

Boy you guys know how to get the memories going. My 49 pickup that I
got when I was 11 , now is a 50, my 62 Newport at age 16 is now a 62
300 sport which I need the exhaust from manifold to muffler, any help
here appreciated, We still live in the house I bought in 75, one
block from my wifes parents, I moved to town 3 miles, one business is
on the farm I grew up on, the other is the place where my great
grandfather bought his supplies at starting in 1887. And mom still
owns that farm. Think I am an antique at 56. What is the best course
to take on the exhaust?          Cal Anderson  62 sport
Whoops the wife just told me the dues are due. Does the club take
