The A/C system in a '60 Chrysler was designed to operate properly on 'Freon', R-12. No other refrigerant will work as well as R-12. A retrofit would be IMO a very bad idea. I have seen and worked on R-12/R-134A retrofit systems and absolutely none have worked at a satisfactory performance level and none without a list of sub problems also.. R-134A is the refrigerant in use today. This refrigerant will in the near future be obsolete and out of production as is R-12 today. Cost differences, R-12 to R-134A, right now, are negligible. Qualified mobile A/C professionals will have either refrigerant available and the ones with the most 'smarts', IMO, will not recommend a retrofit for your vehicle. Your vehicle in my shop, I would not attempt anything but repairs and restoratrion of the system on R-12. R-134A and R-12 are refrigerants and only R-12 can be brand named 'Freon' and not all R-12 will be brand named 'Freon' BTW.
