Not all aussies are as hopeless as me - in my just posted correction, in third para I wished to refer re 300C running at 'drag' events back when new - I typed drag as "darg" - in Australia we sometimes call someone who is maybe not with it, a 'dag', as hanging off/below a sheep's backside - I am not a dag, but feel like one. Blame it on helping a friend finish a $150k 57 Chev Belair Convert total resto - what a mongrel totally so much a major head strain/test of a car to reassemble - if you think any 50s 300 is hard/bad to work on, try a 57 Chev - labor must have been real cheap back then, I reckon there were more man hours in putting any 57 Chev together than any 300C, what a jigsaw, so many bits that have to be totally unbent ever to allow bolts to fit, never mind no adjustment on so many bits that are critical re fitting against others correctly, and so so fiddly, never mind the Factory Parts/Assembly Books leave out most needed bits, nor have any useable index??!! - my only enjoyment/escape is pushing the start button in the 300C going there and back - talk about feeling like getting out of jail - and if you are unlucky/lucky?!! enough miss the lights and are a first row car, boy you can leave some new cars behind as that sweet hemi and brilliant trans shifts sing. And those looking for 300Cs running at darg events, the NHRA put most/all? 300Cs- Bs, and likely Ds, to I don't know what letter 300s - in the same competition class (Coupe) as virtually full competition coupes such as a 34 Ford, or 40 Willys with say a 392 hemi in it, so only fools would bother !?? Others in the US may offer better knowledge than I have built up.Certainly without a limited slip diff, the supercharged 300C I have only driven fairly briefly before starting the rust resto, would have gone nowhere on the tires back then. Even now still totally untuned, just a fair dose of throttle holding on the brakes, then releasing, sees two clouds of smoke pour off fairly new crossplies - but at least the car launches pretty straight, and gets up quick as tires grip.Christopher in Australia where it over 102 degrees today, and my first 300C totally unfussed by heat, a real treat to drive - just been helping unload and drive a real low mile '55 Cad Elso Biarritz convertible (twin batwinged 4bbl carbs), 2 by 68 440 RT Chargers, a real nice unrestored chrome Hooker headed side piped '71 454 4 spd Corvette Roadster, and a as new to drive red 64 Vette coupe with only 27,000 mile most museum life.And guess what (not that I am biased) - would not swap my (not concours) 300C for any of them re the combination of so pleasant to drive, brilliant responsive auto, gutsy motor, and way it just sits on the road and is just effortlessly great at either 40 mph or 70 mph - and when an about 8 year old girl just rushes over to tell you before you drive away "what a great car", life 'daily driving' a 300C can't be too bad eh !!??
