They can break after installation, even new ones, and sometimes you can't even tell that have broken. If you feel that you must be "correct" you might consider using the Corbin clamps backed up by the screw clamps. When you get to your show (or meet) you can remove the back up screw clamps and replace them when you are ready to leave.
