Re: [Chrysler300] Radiator problems

Mike,
You probably have a leak above where the pressure cap holds pressure that vented when you shut it down hot. It could be a pin-hole in the bypass hose just under the radiatop cap to the overflow, or you might have a crack in the gasket on the radiator cap itself.
You might be able to catch it in the act if you take it for a drive, and shut it down without letting it idle to cool down, and raise the hood to see where the stream comes from. Top it off first so it has liquid instead of air or steam to vent, and see what happens.
The pressure cap has a spring-loaded seal that fits down in the filler opening, and when the pressure overcomes the spring, it lets the pressure up into the neck, where the top gasket is supposed to hold it and let it vent through the hose just under the cap to the catch-can.. Then when the system cools down, the overflow is supposed to be drawn back into the radiator, but obviously, a leak in either the top gasket or the overflow hose defeats the purpose.
First thing I would do is pull the cap and make sure the gasket is OK, then visually check the small hose coming out the side of the filler neck for cracks and the filler neck itself for a pinhole.
  Let us know.

Last night I went to a cruise-in down in New Smryna Beach. I opened my hood
and everything was fine. About 15 minutes a guy comes up, asks if this is
my car and tells me I have a serious radiator problem. So I walk up front and
here is my bumper and grill covered with all this green crap (antifreeze)!
And there are indications that is shot out thru the grill because there was a
stream of antifreeze that left a stream of antifreeze 5' from the car. In
front of the condenser were more indications of antifreeze. So I checked the
radiator. It was down so I added 2 liters of water (didn't have any
antifreeze there). I left and went home and watched the temp gauge the whole way
which never moved above it's normal operating temp. This morning I checked the
radiator. It's at the normal cold level! Thinking that just maybe what I
saw was freon I fired her up and turned the A/C on. Plenty of cold and only a
couple of bubbles could be seen in the view finder.

So the radiator is at it's normal level now. The A/C work perfectly. Any
ideas where yesterday's antifreeze might have come from and why it no longer
leaks?
