After about 2,000 miles the fuel pump push rod was so worned out I got stuck by the side of the road... with no gas being pumped to the carbs of course. Regular fuel pump in the car, no heavier fuel pump inner spring or anything. The push rod was a good 3/8 inch shorter than a new one!

Apparently, an ingredient in the oil has been taken out of the original oil recipe, so to speak, by the oil manufacturer(without notice to engine rebuilders?) and that's what was causing the early and fast wear out of the push rod.

I had 2 engines done since the 426 , both were breaked in with John Deere breaking oil and so far no problems or premature wear. I use diesel oil in all my engines.
