Re: [Chrysler300] Phoenix Dual Quad hemi Bargain

Hello all,
Interesting ad but why the photo of a totally different engine....
To answer Rich's questions, the single 4-barrel came out in '54 model year, Imperial & New Yorker, 331 engines.
As for the extended bell housing, this was to contain the fluid drive unit (torque convertor with a clutch) which was discontinued during the '53 model year. The short bell housing contained only a torque convertor connected to a fully automatic powerflite trans., as we are more used to seeing. The engine in question would be a late '53 thru '55, if in fact it is a 331!!!!!

What year did Chrysler start offering a single 4-barrel carb on the 331?
1952? And what does the description of the short bell housing length tell
about which year it might be?

  Quote from the ad:

"From carb to pan. A running 331 hemi. Needs rebuild. No rusted parts and
not a locked motor that was freed up. This came out of a running car. It is
the short bell not the extended bell. Dual point distributor, Chrome valve
covers, and four barrel carb. Serious buyers only. No trades, no checks of
any kind, and no hard luck stories. Cash buys it. Respond to this ad or call
  me at 480-580-3306.

Picture is same size but not actual engine."

I'd make sure that the engine for sale is in fact a dual quad engine.
There's a note by the picture that says the pictured engine is not the
actual engine for sale and..the seller mentions a four barrel (singular not
plural) so it may not be the real deal.
