Try putting things like the firewall back selectively until the problem reappears and that should find the culprit. I don't run a firewall on the machine I tested with since it is on dialup. So far so good since March 2001 and never had to rebuild Windows. Nearly lost the machine to a virus that shutdown Norton AV but was saved by Free AVG and haven't really had any problems since using that anti virus. Interestingly while free it updates daily which Norton did not do. Norton only updated once a week I think which was not often enough to protect a computer effectively these days.
