[Chrysler300] Diablo and 300

The Diablo is indeed a king pin chassis. Originally of course it was built as the Chrysler prototype Dart hardtop shown in 1956 but to get another year out of the show car, they had the roof cut off and renamed it Diablo for 1957. Thus it is usually referred to as the Dart Diablo.

Kanter's yellow/ charcoal car on the other hand is a similar overall design but definitely NOT a twin to the Dart Diablo. It was also built by Ghia but was not a Chrysler- sponsored concept but rather Ghia's own and was called the Ghia 400. When it was shown at the '58 NY Auto Show it was purchased off the show floor by Eugene Cassarol who had previously built the first series of Dual Ghia cars, bodied by Ghia. He swapped on a couple of his "Dual" badges onto the car and put out press releases that this car represented his next series of Dual Ghia for 1958. That didn't happen. The next cars from Mr. Cassarol were the '61-62 Ghia L6.4s. Many years ago Fred Kanter had the opportunity to buy the Ghia 400 / '58 Dual Ghia and did. That car remains unrestored and unaltered and is based on a '57 Chrysler 300C chassis.
