Rob and all, The 1955 Tango Red C300 shown in that book is not ours, but at the time belonged to our friends Erik & Belva Baltzar. Also the black F convert was theirs. Unfortunately they have sold all of their Letter Cars (and at one time they had a bunch of them) due to Erik's health. The shot of the Cloud White B and the couple of shots of the Black 300C coupe are ours. The photo of the B was shot in our driveway and the ones of the 300C just a couple of blocks from our home. In one of the shots of the 300C you see someone walking to the door of the shop and that is me. That was David Newhardt's (the photographer) idea. This past summer we had friends from Ohio visiting and our friend Ken liked that shot so much he asked us to take our black '63 Volkswagen over and he duplicated the photo with his 6 year old son in it. His son Hunter is a big Herbie fan and he really enjoyed the ride. Regarding the Tango Red C300 It is my understanding that the new owner has done extensive modifications to it. I had a phone call a few months back from the shop that was doing all of the work. It now has some 500ci + Hemi, a later model trans, rear end etc. The new owner must have lots of bucks, but frankly I don't get it. These cars are not '55 - '57 Chevys. Continually I see and hear of people doing drastic changes to these historic cars. I don't personally have problems with updating tires, doing disc brake conversions, installing seat belts, etc. That type of modification makes the car safer to operate and is all easily reversible. Another big thing seems to be lets take a Platinum (white) car and paint it Tango Red and lets add equipment or delete it and make the car something it never was. Currently as of my last count there are 22 of the original Tango cars still in existence, (ours and the Baltzar's are two of those) but I know there are more out there that have been created. Our C300 has flaws and someday I hope to have the funds to make body and paint improvements to it. Christie and I both love driving the car and always enjoy sharing it with others. I guess we see all of the imperfections that others overlook. At least I can tell them it is a correct car and not something that was created. We cruised the Carriben last week and I had the pleasure of reading MOPAR MUSCLE cover to cover in flight and while munching on the chocolate by the pillow in the stateroom before going to dreamland where 300s run with impunity! Great book! Special mention made to Gil Cunningham, John Hertog, and John Lazenby, et al in the book with the first 3 years of Letter Cars being featured belonging to John Lazenby! Kudos to you all who contributed to such a fine publication. Happy Holidays and 2006 is the year for Asheville and Lawton! YES!!!
