[Chrysler300] Heat Riser 300G - reply

Hi Paul,

Indeed, unlike most Mopar passenger cars, the ram inducted cars used two
heat risers, on on each side. The passenger side unit is easy to find
replacement parts for; however, the driver's side unit is a different
story - but only as far as one specific part - the counterweight.

If you need to rebuild the driver's side, as long as you have the
counterweight, you'll be OK - everything else is interchangeable. The shaft,
bushings and thermostatic springs are the same (the spring is just installed
"backwards" on that side as compared to the passenger side) , and the rest
of the hardware is also the same. The only difference, really, is the actual
counterweight itself.

No, you may not make things work in the opposite direction; won't work. The
only real problem you will encounter is if your original left (driver's)
side counterweight is missing. You'll either have to find one (from another
Club member or ??? ) or make one. To the best of my knowledge, there are no
Mopar cars, other than the ram cars, that used that specific, "reversed"
counterweight. If I am wrong, someone please let me know - I could use a
couple of those !

Of course, there are plenty of passenger (Right) side counterweights out
there, in junkyards, etc.. since they were used on many, many cars of that
period.

You may check out a good picture showing both sides of the heat riser system
on the ram cars : http://www.crossrams.com/van300f/0105exman6.JPG

And there are pictures showing rebuild of same :

Hope this helps,
