Excellent advice; the only thing I might add is to disconnect the line from the tank at the fuel pump while you have it loose at the tank end and blow it out to clear any crud in the line and put a new in-line filter between the fuel pump and carb. One more thing; there are two flapper valves in the fuel pump, an inlet and an outlet. It's possible the reason you aren't getting any suction is because of crud lodged in one or both. I have an electric fuel pump and enough hose to hook it to the fuel pump on the car and push fresh, clean gas thru the inlet side with a hose from the outlet side into a clear container so I can see when the pump is clean. The gas will flow thru the pump valves in the direction gas normally flows, and flush any contamination out. The carb should be ok because of the filter, so now you have a clean system from tank to carb. Before you hook the line to carb up, first hook up the line from the tank, and crank the engine over while the line from the outlet side of the fuel pump still has the hose running into the clear container to make sure you now have strong pulse of gas, then hook the line to carb and you should be good to go. That little rod left a good friend and club member sitting with his Silver Edition DEAD on top of the Detroit- Windsor Ambassador Bridge a few years back. I think the $6 or $8 investment with Mother Mopar would be good insurance. I would also look at the draw tube filter at the end of your sending unit. That one is more of a pain because you have to drop the tank to get at it. If you do this, I'd have the tank flushed and boiled out while you have it down. In my experience, the fuel line is only the transporter of the crud coming out of the gas tank. The lines themselves are pretty bullet proof. And that way you'd be starting over with a clean tank and all fresh fuel.
