In 60 or 61 the Pure Oil Research Center was testing butyl tires. A gimmick they used to drum up interest was, they had a ball of rubber and a ball of butyl. You'd drop the rubber ball on the floor and it would bounce as expected. When you dropped the butyl ball it only bounced an inch or so. I put a pair on the back of my Ford. They pretty much solved the bad traction problem it had, but they wore out real fast and made a lot of noise, like driving on a freshly tarred road. I lent the tires to a friend with a 58 Ford to go racing with on Sundays when I wasn't going to the strip. They helped him, too, but Pure Oil dropped the program pretty fast.
