Yes, Bill Carroll did the "Beautiful Brute" for C&D. I think Bob is referring to Ken Fermoyle, who was our banquet speaker. He was with Popular Science back then and is known for doing a road test of the 400HP/4-speed 300F. Chrysler also used him in a 300F brochure...
