G, With ignition to "off", connect a jumper wire from the wire that plugs into the terminal at fuel tank sender, to a good ground somewhere. You can leave the wire connected to the sender, won't matter.... just ground it out. Then, go in the car and BRIEFLY turn the ignition switch to "ON". If the fuel tank gauge needle jumps up and pegs itself, then the problem is definitely in the tank sender. Shut down the ignition immediately ! If, on the other hand, still nothing happens, then the problem is upstream of the sender. My guess is the problem is either a bad sender, or the float in the sender sprung a leak andis now full of gas and laying at the bottom of the tank. Get a new float from the Ford dealer. Thirsty has no operating gas gauge. It does not register, does not blip. The tank side seems all connected and fine. Since the needle doesn't budge, it should be an electrical problem. Dropped the access plate under the dash and all we see are some nuts securing gauge to dash. One nut which of course is the farthest away has a very frayed small metal strand kind of around it. But it doesn't seem to go anywhere. So all our Chrysler technician helpers, what is the logical (and easiest on the old body) step to do now. It's a long way to Maine with no gas gauge. But the speedometer/odometer is there so we're going any way. I just hate to see poor Allan hoofing up the road with a gas can in hand.
