Hi Terry and All: Am finally getting around to answering the 300D convert exhaust question. The car uses four mufflers----Chrysler does not use the term resonator here----two within the "X" part of the frame, and two behind it, right by the hangers. Specs and part numbers are: Front: 2 #1736810, 15 inches long, 2" inlet, 1 3/4" outlet. Rear: 2 #1736802, 12 inches long, 1 3/4" inlet, 1 3/4" outlet. Connecting pipes are both PN 1736770. (Not that any of these PNs will do any good!) The 300C and 300D convertibles had the same exhaust system as the NewYorker converts, and had to go to the four muffler arrangement apparently because the coupe/sedan muffler of 35 inches would not fit within the confines of the "X" frame. It seems that they could have made the diameters larger to match the coupe 300s, but that would have meant 2 additional muffler PNs plus the inter-pipe. Evidently they didn't think it was worth it. (Or perhaps the frame would have had to be modified too) For your information, the May 1958 Issue of Motor Life shows two excellent views of the 300D convertible frame and exhaust arrangement. They were quite taken with the "3/8 inch thick H section" crossmember, apparently. The rear mufflers, according to Chrysler engineering specs, have only one tube in them rather than the usual three. The motor life pictures seem to confirm that, as the entrance and exit are both off center on the same side. Hope this helps a little. 300ly, Gil C.
