The mufflers are in front of the X-frame & the resonators are behind the X-frame. The purpose of the resonators is to prevent certain sound waves from the exhaust that would resonate throughout the car at certains engine RPM's if only mufflers were used. Anyone owning a Corvette with an aftermarket exhaust will know what I mean.

I am replacing the exhaust system on my 300D convert.  I think it came with 2 
inch pipes and two mufflers and two resonators.  Were the mufflers ahead of 
the X-frame and the resonators behind the X-frame?  And were the resonators 
just additional mufflers, or were they something special?  Thanks in advance for
